Traveling to the UK

If you do not have a British or an Irish passport, you might need to apply for a visa or an electronic travel authorisation (ETA). You need a valid passport to travel to the UK, even if traveling from a European country (e.g., if you have a European nationality, an identity card will not work).

Attendees (who are not British/Irish) traveling from Europe (and other countries) must apply for an ETA before traveling to the UK. This requirement starts from 2 April 2025 for Europeans, and will therefore be enforced when DiGS26 takes place.

To know whether your nationality requires an ETA, please consult official information: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/check-when-you-can-get-an-electronic-travel-authorisation-eta

Applying for an ETA costs £10. All relevant information on the ETA and on how to apply can be found on the government's website: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/apply-for-an-electronic-travel-authorisation-eta

Traveling to Oxford

The nearest airports are Birmingham, London Heathrow, London Luton and London Gatwick. London Stansted is farther away, but still a good option.

The Oxford train station is fairly central, only a 10-15-minute walk from the conference site.

Accommodation

The best option is to stay in the centre of Oxford or in the neighbourhood of Jericho. There are also options in the Cowley district (especially through Airbnb) which is a 20-30-minute walk from the centre. There are also many and frequent buses connecting this area with the city centre. On this website you can look for accommodation in the colleges of the university (there are also options for hotels, hostels, etc.). For a larger accommodation and other rooms, Booking is also an option.
